Tree Plantation Drive at Sona Devi University in Collaboration with LIC under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Program

Ghatsila, Jamshedpur, September 11, 2024 – Sona Devi University, in association with LIC officials, organized a tree plantation drive under the initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. The event aimed at environmental conservation and honoring the selfless love and sacrifice of mothers, took place in the lush campus of Sona Devi University, Ghatsila.

The plantation drive witnessed the active participation of the university’s Chancellor, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra, Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Gulab Singh ‘Azad’, faculty members, students, and the LIC team. Together, they planted a variety of saplings, which included fruit-bearing trees, ornamental plants, and medicinal species, symbolizing life, growth, and nurturing – qualities synonymous with motherhood.

Chancellor Prabhakar Singh addressed the gathering, expressing his delight at the initiative and emphasizing the importance of trees in combating climate change and enhancing the environment. He stated, “Trees are the lungs of our planet. By planting them, we not only honor our mothers but also commit to a greener, healthier future for the coming generations.”

LIC officials expressed their appreciation for the university’s commitment to green initiatives. Mr. Anil Kumar, Senior Officer at LIC, stated, “This initiative, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, holds immense emotional and environmental significance. Every tree planted today represents the nurturing and life-giving spirit of motherhood and our collective responsibility towards Mother Earth.”

The students of Sona Devi University were enthusiastic participants, pledging to take care of the planted saplings and ensuring their growth in the years to come. Many students shared personal stories about their mothers, relating the act of planting trees to their mother’s nurturing care in their own lives.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.P. Mishra further added, “Tree plantation is a humble step towards restoring ecological balance. This initiative will inspire our students and staff to actively engage in sustainable practices and protect the environment.”

The tree plantation drive concluded with the chanting of slogans emphasizing environmental protection and the need for sustainable development. The event marks the beginning of a series of green initiatives planned by Sona Devi University in collaboration with various organizations to promote a cleaner, greener environment.

This heartfelt event not only celebrated the bond of motherhood but also reinforced the commitment of Sona Devi University and LIC towards making the world a greener place.
