Sona Devi University and COFFED Join Hands to Empower Fisheries Education

Jamshedpur, August 24, 2023: In a significant step towards fostering education and growth among the fishing community, Bihar State Cooperative Fisheries Federation (COFFED) has entered into a strategic partnership with Sona Devi University. Under this collaboration, children from the Nishad community will receive a 50% waiver in admission to various courses. This initiative aims to provide substantial relief to underprivileged children in the fishing community and enhance their educational prospects.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between COFFED and Sona Devi University, located in Jharkhand. Rishikesh Kashyap, Director of COFFED, and Prabhakar Singh, Chairman of Sona Devi University, expressed their mutual commitment to transforming education in Bihar and Jharkhand.

Highlighting the significance of the partnership, Rishikesh Kashyap mentioned that the collaboration will pave the way for higher education opportunities for children from the Nishad community. It will also ensure employment opportunities for youth in the field of fisheries. The partnership aims to design courses that are not only educational but also employment-oriented, contributing to the upliftment of the fishing sector.

Sona Devi University, through its course designs, will play a pivotal role in the partnership. The goal is to ensure that graduates in fisheries education do not face unemployment, ensuring a sustainable future for the fishing industry in Bihar. The collaboration is expected to boost fisheries education and production, reducing the state’s dependency on Andhra Pradesh and Bengal for fisheries production.
